Halloween
I went to the new “Spirit” Halloween store up by the outlets this weekend with my husband. It was quite the experience. They have lots of gory masks and decorations, it made me think… where did the tradition or holiday that some celebrate known as “Halloween” come from?
After doing a little research I found out that the night we now know as Halloween is derived from a day that was once celebrated as “All Hallows Eve” or a religious celebration of Saints. After continuing my research I also found out that “Halloween” to those who were very superstitious, was also a night that was believed to be a time when demons and foul spirits roamed the world to celebrate the return of the cold and dark. Men were tormented by the evil spirits and tried to buy their freedom by offering food and assorted treats. This was thus marked by terrible noises, tricks, and pranks. Most of the common images of Halloween – the jack-o’-lantern, masked figures, bonfires, and the famous cry “trick-or-treat” all originated from these customs. The jack-o’-lantern is traced back to Central Europe as a symbol of the cemetery caretakers and the lamps they carried to light the way.
Interesting…
Now knowing a little about the ‘History of Halloween’ what do you plan on dressing up as this year?

Its Taylor and for this years Halloween I’m going to be a 60s girl. My costume is really cool. I like dressing up as just random things more than things having to do with Halloween like witchs ghosts or things like that. I’m really excited about this years Halloween because I’m going in a new place trick or treating and I get to go with my best friend. Happy Halloween.

I plan on being a fairy, nothing cute like a fairy princess or anything like that. And sometimes I think that to where does Halloween come from? Now I know and I cant ask that question any more. Last year watched a few videos with Mr.Williams.

This Halloween I’m going to be a juice box. I’m going to my friend’s house with my family and we’re going to have dinner at their house and after, my mom and dad are going with my brother to his friend’s house for a BBQ. Then we’ll all go trick-or-treating. But before all that we’ll probably carve pumpkins.I’m going trick-or-treating in a huge neighbor-hood because I have braces and I need alot of candy so I can pick out the things I can have. I cant have anything with carmel in it so that’s going to be hard.

I also can’t wait because I am going to trick or treat for UNICEF for the first time!!! Also, after the weekend my dad will have his shoulder fixed and by next year we can play football again. I think it’s cool that they celibrated the day when the spirits cane back from the dead. I thought that it was called the day of the dead. I can’t belive the spirits tormented the men and women of the village. I thought it was wierd that that used to call now known as Halloween “All Hallow Eve”. I can’t belive that Halloween means celibrating the evil spirits (ect). Know I know that we dress as ugly, scary cretures to represent the spirits.
